Sometimes life throws you a curveball that really shakes you. This past week, I experienced one of those moments when my email was hacked. Suddenly, thousands of people on my contact list – many of whom I hadn’t connected with in years – were sent scam emails in my name, some even requesting money.
I can’t sugarcoat it. I felt violated. There’s the embarrassment of disturbing people, the invasion of privacy, and the sinking feeling that your personal space has been tampered with. Even though I know this kind of thing is becoming more and more common, it still stings.
But here’s what I always say: out of every situation – whether it feels positive or negative – there are lessons to be learned and silver linings to be found.
And for me, the silver lining was a powerful reminder of the goodness in humanity.
The Heartwarming Response
After the scam emails went out, I was inundated with messages, phone calls, and emails from people checking in on me. Some were worried about my “laryngitis” (one of the stories the hackers used), while others wanted to make sure I was safe. A few even offered to help financially if I was really in crisis.
And while the situation itself was unpleasant, the outpouring of care was incredibly heartwarming. It reminded me that no matter what kind of chaos is happening around us, people do look out for each other.
More Light Than Dark
This experience reinforced a belief I hold close: there is more light than dark in the world. Yes, there will always be shadows – scams, challenges, disappointments – but there is also so much kindness, generosity, and love. When you choose to focus on the light, the dark loses its grip.
So if you find yourself in the middle of a situation where the “shit hits the fan,” remember this: there is always good around you. It might come in the form of a supportive friend, a heartfelt message, or even a stranger’s willingness to lend a hand.
Choosing Light Every Time
Life has a way of testing us, but it also has a way of showing us what truly matters. For me, this was a reminder that community, care, and compassion are alive and well.
The dark may be all around us, but the light is stronger. Stick to the light and you’ll be right. 🌟
